Providing digital offerings for people with dementia and their caregivers is one of digiDEM Bayern's missions. Therefore, the digiDEM Bayern team has developed two new, free online offerings: The caregiver traffic light helps caregivers recognize their personal burden. The digital hearing screening provides indications of whether hearing damage is present. Studies have shown that untreated hearing loss can increase the risk of dementia. In our first webinar in 2021, the digital offerings „Angehörigenampel“ (caregiver traffic light) and „Hörtest“ (hearing test) were presented in detail.

The family traffic light can be used on any mobile device (including tablets or smartphones) with internet access. We recommend using a current browser such as Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge to ensure you are protected by the manufacturer's necessary security updates and to receive optimal display of our digital offerings.
The online hearing test from digiDEM Bayern, found here, based on the „Digit Triple Test.“ The Digit Triple Test addressed the scientific question of whether the selection of entered digits corresponds to the actual hearing result of the user. Based on this question, the Digit Triple Test was used to verify whether entering digits and thus checking hearing ability through the test is reliably possible with a group of 10 normal-hearing and 20 hearing-impaired subjects.
The study's results show that the digit triplet test can be used for hearing screening, but it does not replace a diagnostic test. Nevertheless, the test offers a generally accessible, evidence-based, and easy-to-use screening method that can be performed online. Studies show that cognitive health is influenced by incoming stimuli from the environment. In the case of untreated hearing loss, a lower density of information from the environment is transmitted to the brain. However, stimulating the brain through auditory stimuli is highly relevant for maintaining cognitive abilities.

The Family Caregiver Traffic Light aims for early detection of physical and psychological strain in family caregivers, making it suitable as a preventive measure. In addition to its preventive aspect, the Family Caregiver Traffic Light can also serve as a long-term tool for reviewing possible positive or negative changes in caregiving burden.
