The exact causes of Alzheimer's dementia are still unclear. While age is considered the most significant risk factor, genetics is increasingly coming into focus for research. This raises numerous questions: What role do genetic factors play in the development of dementia? What is the risk of developing dementia if one's mother or grandfather has already suffered from dementia? And what significance is attributed to the so-called ApoE4 gene, which is increasingly becoming the focus of research when talking about new therapeutic approaches and medications such as Lecanemab?
Prof. Dr. Jochen Walter heads the Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology at the Center for Neurology at the University Hospital Bonn and conducts intensive research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ‚Alzheimer Forschung Initiative e.V.‘ (Alzheimer's Research Initiative). Prof. Dr. Jochen Walter's main research goal is to better understand the development of Alzheimer's disease so that new prevention and therapy strategies can be developed. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Jochen Walter aims to identify new starting points for diagnosis. In the upcoming webinar, the neurobiologist will shed light on various genetic aspects of Alzheimer's disease.
