The dementia research project “Digital Dementia Register Bavaria”, or digiDEM Bavaria for short, launched an Open Innovation competition, inviting submissions of digital solutions for people with dementia, caregivers, interested citizens, and volunteers. A total of 19 submissions were received, and an expert jury selected the three winners.
The digiDEM Bavaria Project
The provision of digital services in the dementia sector forms one of the two pillars of digiDEM Bavaria. In addition to digital services, digiDEM Bavaria also includes surveys of people with dementia and their caregivers throughout Bavaria over a period of three years. The aim is to gain insights into the course of the disease and the situation of relatives, and to identify possible deficits.
digiDEM Bayern bildet einen Verbund aus der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, dem Universitätsklinikum Erlangen und dem Innovationscluster Medical Valley Europäische Metropolregion Nürnberg. Das Projekt wird vom Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Gesundheit und Pflege gefördert.
75 Prozent der Menschen mit Demenz weltweit leben ohne eine gesicherte Diagnose, so der jüngste World Alzheimer Report 2021. One German study berichtet einen ähnlichen Anteil. Demzufolge wissen 60 Prozent nicht, dass sie an Demenz erkrankt sind. Oft wird die Diagnose erst sehr spät gestellt. Dabei ist es für Menschen mit kognitiven Einschränkungen und ihre Angehörigen von großer Bedeutung, frühzeitig Gewissheit zu haben: „Eine zeitgerechte Diagnose verbessert die Lebensbedingungen im Rahmen der späteren Gesundheitsversorgung“, erklärt der Neurologe Prof. Dr. med. Peter Kolominsky-Rabas, Leiter des Interdisziplinären Zentrums für Health Technology Assessment (HTA) und Public Health der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) und einer der Projektleiter von digiDEM Bayern.
Gefördert wird digiDEM Bayern vom Bayerischen Staatsministerium für Gesundheit und Pflege (StMGP).
