digiDEM Bayern erhält Förderbescheid über 2,5 Mio. Euro

digiDEM Bavaria receives grant notification for 2.5 million Euros

Great joy at the Digital Dementia Register Bavaria (digiDEM Bayern): The Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (StMGP) is extending the research project and providing digiDEM Bayern with a corresponding funding notification of 2.5 million Euros.

There is a great need for scientifically sound findings on the care situation of people with dementia and their caregivers, especially in Bavaria's rural regions. And the need is increasing. More than 240,000 people with dementia currently live in Bavaria alone. Due to demographic developments, there could be an increase to 300,000 patients by 2030.

Short scientific tests are a central part of early dementia detection.

„We started in January 2019 to improve the living conditions of people with dementia and their caregivers. That's why we are building a digital registry in Bavaria to better understand the long-term progression of dementia, explains neurologist and digiDEM Bavaria project leader Prof. Dr. Peter Kolominsky-Rabas. With the support of digiDEM Bavaria research partners, long-term data on the care and treatment of people with dementia and their caregivers is being collected throughout Bavaria.“.

High appreciation

For the funding period from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024, the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care (StMGP) is funding digiDEM Bavaria with 2.5 million Euros. „This signifies great appreciation for our scientific efforts, both for us and our research partners across Bavaria. At the same time, it motivates us to continue contributing to early dementia detection and raising awareness for this important issue.“ The funding will benefit both the further development of the digital dementia registry and the creation of innovative digital support services.

digiDEM Bavaria is an interdisciplinary research project by the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, the University Hospital Erlangen, and the Medical Valley European Metropolitan Region Nuremberg innovation cluster. The project is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care (StMGP) as part of the Bavarian State Government's Master Plan „BAYERN DIGITAL II.“.
