There is currently no cure for dementia. Only the symptoms of dementia can be favorably influenced through non-drug and drug treatments. Therefore, the question arises whether potential sufferers should inform themselves about their own dementia diagnosis or not.
There are scientific reasons that support timely diagnosis. For example, those affected can organize their future life plans early on and initiate various treatments. On the other hand, those affected can exercise their right not to know and thus protect themselves from psychological distress, for example.
Prof. Dr. Martina Schmidhuber heads the Institute for Health Care Ethics at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz and has been researching medical ethics topics in the field of dementia for many years. With her expertise, she will weigh the pros and cons of not knowing a dementia diagnosis in the upcoming webinar.

With the webinar series „Science Watch LIVE,“ we offer an additional service to our monthly newsletter digiDEM Bavaria Science WaOkay, where we provide scientific findings from dementia research.
Against the backdrop of widespread half-truths and fake news, evidence-based science is in demand. It is more important than ever to communicate scientific findings in a way that is understandable to society and to promote exchange about them. As the digiDEM Bavaria project team, we want to contribute to this, now also with digiDEM Bavaria Science Watch LIVE.
