Gender Studies in medicine is a highly relevant social topic. Gender plays an important role in both the development and treatment of diseases. Gender-specific differences are also observed in dementia patients. For example, women develop dementia more often than men, exhibit different symptom profiles, and respond differently to various forms of treatment. Therefore, the questions arise: Which biological, hormonal, and socio-cultural factors contribute to these gender-specific differences?
Prof. Dr. Elke Kalbe is the head of the Department of Medical Psychology with a focus on neuropsychology and gender studies at the Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Cologne at the University of Cologne, where she researches, among other things, gender differences in people with cognitive impairments. Additionally, since 2019, she has been the Vice Dean for „Academic Development and Equity of Opportunity.“ In the upcoming webinar, Prof. Dr. Elke Kalbe will present findings on gender-specific differences in dementia.
