Recognizing, treating, and preventing dementia diseases: The new ‚S3 Guideline on Dementias‘ from November 2023 provides scientifically founded, so-called evidence-based information on this topic. With the help of concrete recommendations for action, the quality of treatment and care for those affected is to be improved. The guideline is aimed at all professional groups involved in the care of people with dementia. Affected individuals and their relatives can also use the guideline as a source of information.
In 2010, the ‚S3 Guideline on Dementias‘ was first developed by the German Society of Neurology (DGN) and the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN). The most current version of the guideline, for example, provides new recommendations for the early detection of Alzheimer's dementia and newly includes aspects of capacity to consent and driving fitness in people with dementia.
Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Richard Dodel holds the Chair of Geriatrics at the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen. On behalf of the DGN, he was the lead coordinator, together with Prof. Dr. med. Frank Jessen (DGPPN), in the development of the ‚S3 Guideline on Dementias‘, taking a leading role. In the webinar, he will present the most important innovations and recommendations for action.
