Diese untersuchten den Zusammenhang zwischen Nahrungserg\u00e4nzungsmitteln und altersbedingter Makuladegeneration, einer Erkrankung, die das Sehverm\u00f6gen beeintr\u00e4chtigt. In die erste Studie wurden zwischen 1992 und 1998 Teilnehmer*innen im Alter zwischen 55 und 80 Jahren eingeschlossen; ihre geistigen F\u00e4higkeiten wurden zwischen 2000 und 2004 bewertet. Die Teilnehmer*innen&nbsp;f\u00fcr die zweite Studie&nbsp;wurden zwischen 2006 und 2008 rekrutiert und waren im Alter zwischen 50 und 85. Ihre geistigen F\u00e4higkeiten wurden zu Beginn der Studie sowie nach 2, 4 und 10 Jahren untersucht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Verzehr von Fisch als wichtigster Faktor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Um die geistigen F\u00e4higkeiten zu beurteilen, verwendeten die Forscher*innen standardisierte Testverfahren an, darunter den Mini-Mental-Status-Test. Im Hinblick auf die Ern\u00e4hrungsgewohnheiten nutzten sie Frageb\u00f6gen. Die Teilnehmer*innen gaben darin an, inwieweit sie im Vorjahr eine mediterrane Di\u00e4t eingehalten hatten. Diese Werte setzten sie miteinander in Beziehung. Dabei zeigte sich, dass eine striktere Einhaltung der mediterranen Ern\u00e4hrungsweise das Risiko f\u00fcr den geistigen Abbau verringert. Dies galt besonders f\u00fcr den Verzehr von Fisch, der mit einem langsameren allgemeineren geistigen R\u00fcckgang verbunden war.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Autor*innen zeigten auch Einschr\u00e4nkungen ihrer Studie auf.
